Automate Your Online Presence Management with IFTTT (To Have More Time for Your Small Business!)

IFTTT was introduced in 2011 as a smart add-on to the already existing apps. I mean, how genius is it? How many times had you used an app and thought that ‘if it was also capable of doing x, it would have been my dream tool’?

I am an avid IFTTT applets (previously called ‘recipes’) user and I have saved plenty of time by letting those tiny scripts automate online processes, data collection, content cross-platform sharing, backups and more. Here I am sharing the best time-saving IFTTT applets for small business owners to help you out because if there is one thing every busy boss should do is to make online work for them.

What is IFTTT?

IFTTT (stands for If This Then That) is a free web-based service, which creates simple chains of automation between different online tools triggered by conditional statements. IFTTT has differentiated the following concepts:

  • Services (formerly known as ‘channels’) are the basis for IFTTT triggers. This term encompasses web services such as Gmail or Evernote, certain information (weather, location) as well as some actions controlled with certain APIs like SMS.
  • Triggers are the “this” part of an applet. They are the items (hashtags, e-mails, keywords etc.) that “trigger” the action.
  • Actions are the “that” part of an applet. They are the result of your triggers
  • Applets are the predicates made from Triggers and Actions.
  • Ingredients are basic data available from a trigger—from the email trigger, for example, subject, body, attachment, received date, and sender’s address.
